Step-by-Step Instructions for Baked Apple Fritters
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, white whole wheat flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add cold butter to the flour mixture and cut it in until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour into the flour mixture and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped apples evenly into the batter.
  6. Using a 1/4 cup scoop, drop portions of batter onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 11-13 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown and the centers feel set.
  8. Carefully broil the fritters for 2-4 minutes until their tops are golden.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the confectioner’s sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth to create a glaze.
  10. Brush a thin layer of glaze over the top of the warm fritters as soon as they come out from under the broiler.
  11. Allow the fritters to set briefly before serving warm, ideally with coffee or hot apple cider.
