Cookie Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter and 1 cup of sugar in a large mixing bowl.
- Add 1 large egg and 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract to the mixture and mix until smooth.
- Whisk together 2.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add to the wet mixture.
- Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Chill for 30 minutes if too soft.
- Cut out cookies with a heart-shaped cutter and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden but centers remain soft.
- Cool cookies on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Prepare icing by whisking together 2 cups of powdered sugar and 2-4 tablespoons of milk.
- Decorate the cooled cookies with icing and colorful sprinkles.
