Method
 

Instructions
  1. Combine the tomato sauce, dried onion, garlic powder, chili powder, black pepper, cumin, and hot sauce in a large pot over medium heat. Stir gently for about 2 minutes.
  2. Add raw hamburger to the pot. Use a potato masher to break down the meat as it cooks, stirring occasionally for about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Reduce heat to low and cover the pot partially. Simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring every 20-30 minutes until thickened and deepened in color.
  4. For slow cooker method, transfer sauce mixture to slow cooker and cook on low for 6 hours, propping the lid slightly open.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as desired. Simmer for another 10 minutes after adjustments.
  6. Serve the sauce generously over steamed hot dogs in soft New England rolls, topped with onions and mustard.
