Step-by-Step Instructions for Swedish Cardamom Cookies
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Use a mortar and pestle to grind the cardamom seeds until finely ground and set aside half a teaspoon for decoration.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter and both sugars until creamy and smooth, then mix in the syrup, baking soda, vanilla sugar, and cinnamon.
  4. Gradually add the all-purpose flour into the wet mixture, mixing until a soft and slightly sticky dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into two portions, roll each into logs and flatten them into wide rectangles.
  6. Sprinkle the reserved ground cardamom and granulated sugar over the flattened logs, pressing gently to adhere.
  7. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, until slightly golden around the edges.
  8. Cool for 5 minutes before slicing the logs diagonally and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
