- In a large bowl, mix sourdough starter, sugar, flour, milk, and melted butter. Cover and let ferment overnight for 8-12 hours.
- The next morning, heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Monitor with a thermometer.
- Once the sponge has fermented, mix in egg, diced apples, salt, baking soda, and spices until sticky and cohesive.
- Drop about 1/4 cup of batter into hot oil. Fry for about 2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
