Ingredients

For the Apple Base
  • 6 lbs Apples Choose sweet and tangy varieties like Gala, Fuji, or Honeycrisp for the best flavor.
For Sweetness and Spice
  • 3 cups White Sugar This adds sweetness and aids in preserving; brown sugar can deepen the flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon Essential for that warm, cozy taste; adjust to your spice preference.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Kosher Salt Balances the sweetness and enhances all the flavors in your Crock-Pot apple butter.

Equipment

  • Crock Pot
  • Immersion blender
  • Ladle
  • Canning jars

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Crock-Pot Apple Butter
  1. Start by peeling and roughly chopping 6 lbs of your favorite apples. Place the chopped apples into your Crock-Pot, allowing them to fill the pot halfway for even cooking.
  2. Sprinkle 3 cups of white sugar along with 2 teaspoons of cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt over the apples. Gently mix everything together with a wooden spoon.
  3. Cover your Crock-Pot with a lid and set it to HIGH. Allow the apple mixture to cook for about 8 to 10 hours.
  4. Once the apples are soft, carefully remove the lid and continue to cook on HIGH, stirring occasionally for another 1 to 2 hours.
  5. Using an immersion blender, blend the softened apple mixture until it reaches a smooth and velvety consistency.
  6. If the apple butter needs a bit more reduction, leave the lid off and switch to the LOW setting. Continue cooking for an additional 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  7. Carefully transfer the hot apple butter into sterile canning jars using a ladle. Seal them immediately to preserve freshness.
