Ingredients

For the Crust
  • 1 cup Fine Graham Cracker Crumbs Gluten-free alternatives like crushed gluten-free cookies work well too.
  • ½ cup Unsalted Butter Melted; coconut oil is a great dairy-free choice.
  • ¾ teaspoon Fine Sea Salt Divided; use less if using table salt.
For the Filling
  • 1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk 14 ounces; do not confuse with evaporated milk!
  • 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Feel free to substitute with dark or milk chocolate.
  • ¾ cup Unsweetened Coconut Flakes To enhance flavor, try using toasted coconut.

Equipment

  • 8x8 baking dish
  • mixing bowl
  • spatula

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8"x8" baking dish.
  2. In a small bowl, combine fine graham cracker crumbs, melted unsalted butter, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Stir until it resembles wet sand, then press it into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
  3. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crust, spreading it out with a spatula. Sprinkle ¼ teaspoon of salt on top.
  4. Scatter semi-sweet chocolate chips and unsweetened coconut flakes over the condensed milk layer. Press down gently with a fork.
  5. Transfer to the oven and bake for 28-30 minutes until the coconut is golden brown.
  6. Remove from the oven, run a knife around the edges, and allow to cool completely at room temperature for 30 minutes to 1 hour before cutting into bars.
