Equipment

  • large skillet
  • mixing bowl
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • large pot

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef, cooking for about 7–10 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat, stir in marinara sauce, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 15 ounces of ricotta cheese, ½ cup of grated Parmesan, and 1 large egg. Season with salt and blend until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook 12 lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente, about 8–10 minutes. Drain and lay flat.
  4. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Layer with 3 noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, and 1 cup of mozzarella. Repeat, finishing with meat sauce and mozzarella on top.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes, until golden.
  6. Let the lasagna rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing to allow layers to set.
