Ingredients
  

For the Gyro Filling
  • 1 pound Ground Beef (80/20 blend) For juicy texture
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano Or Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin Adds warmth
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika Use smoked paprika for deeper flavor
  • to taste Salt Adjust to preference
  • to taste Black Pepper Adjust to preference
  • optional Cayenne Pepper For added heat
For the Tzatziki Sauce
  • 1 cup Greek Yogurt Or dairy-free yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice Lime juice is a substitute
  • 1 cup Cucumber Drained and grated
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Dill Or mint for a twist
  • to taste Salt Adjust to taste
  • to taste Black Pepper Freshly cracked is best
For Assembling
  • 4 pieces Pita Bread Look for gluten-free options if needed
  • 1 small Red Onion Sliced
  • 1 large Tomato Diced
  • 1 cup Lettuce Leaves Romaine or iceberg are good choices
  • 1/2 cup Feta Cheese Or crumbled goat cheese

Method
 

Preparing the Dish
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine Greek yogurt, fresh lemon juice, drained grated cucumber, chopped dill, salt, and pepper. Stir and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook, stirring frequently, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Season the beef with oregano, cumin, paprika, and salt and pepper to taste. Cook an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. Warm pita bread by lightly toasting in a skillet or in a preheated oven.
  6. Assemble gyros by placing spiced beef in the center of the warm pita, topping with red onion, tomato, lettuce, and tzatziki.
  7. Garnish with crumbled feta cheese, fold the pita, and serve immediately with extra tzatziki on the side.

Notes
