Preparing the Dish
- In a mixing bowl, combine Greek yogurt, fresh lemon juice, drained grated cucumber, chopped dill, salt, and pepper. Stir and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add ground beef to the skillet and cook, stirring frequently, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Season the beef with oregano, cumin, paprika, and salt and pepper to taste. Cook an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Warm pita bread by lightly toasting in a skillet or in a preheated oven.
- Assemble gyros by placing spiced beef in the center of the warm pita, topping with red onion, tomato, lettuce, and tzatziki.
- Garnish with crumbled feta cheese, fold the pita, and serve immediately with extra tzatziki on the side.
