Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the wet ingredients: cooled melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Whisk until smooth. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, stirring until fully blended.
- Fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients using a spatula until no dry flour remains.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and chunks, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 2 hours.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while the dough chills. Prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Once the dough has chilled, scoop the dough into large balls and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes until the edges are golden and the centers are slightly underbaked.
- Press reserved chocolate pieces on top of each cookie as soon as they come out of the oven. Let cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes.

Notes
For best results, chill the dough and ensure you do not overmix to maintain tenderness.
