  • 1 pound Ground Beef can substitute with turkey or a plant-based alternative
  • 1 pound Italian Sausage add depth; substitute with mild or spicy based on preference
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion can swap with shallots or green onions
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced; substitute with garlic powder if fresh is unavailable
  • 1 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes optional for heat; omit if preferred
  • 28 ounces Marinara Sauce use any favorite brand or homemade
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano can use thyme or basil as alternatives
  • to taste teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • to taste teaspoon Black Pepper
For the Cheese Filling
  • 15 ounces Cottage Cheese substitute with ricotta if desired
  • 1 large Egg no substitute, but can use silken tofu as a vegan alternative
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese or Pecorino for a sharper taste
  • 1 tablespoon Dried Parsley can replace with fresh parsley
For the Lasagna Assembly
  • 12 sheets Lasagna Noodles no-boil noodles can be used
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese can use provolone as a substitution
  • 1 cup Baby Swiss Cheese substitute with regular Swiss or more mozzarella

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage with the chopped onion for 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, then stir in marinara sauce, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer on low for 10 minutes.
  4. Boil salted water and cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions, stopping 2 minutes early. Drain and lay flat on a towel.
  5. Combine cottage cheese, egg, grated Parmesan, and dried parsley in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Spread a layer of meat sauce in the baking dish and layer 4 noodles over it. Spread half of the cottage cheese mixture, then repeat layers and finish with noodles and sauce topped with mozzarella and Swiss cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
