- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix in melted butter and salt, then gradually stir in flour until a dough forms. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Punch the risen dough down, divide it into 8 portions, roll each into a strip, enclose a cheese stick, and twist into pretzel shape.
- Boil water and stir in baking soda. Dip each pretzel for 15-20 seconds and place on a baking sheet.
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Whisk egg yolk and water for wash. Brush pretzels and sprinkle with toppings.
