Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add half of the bacon grease. Once shimmering, add the sliced smoked sausage cooking for 5-7 minutes until browned. Remove sausage and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add remaining bacon grease, toss in sliced yellow onion with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until soft and caramelized.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 20 seconds until fragrant. Do not let it brown.
  4. Add butter and smoked paprika, stirring until melted. Pour in apple cider vinegar and let it bubble.
  5. Incorporate shredded cabbage, sautéing for 10-12 minutes until tender.
  6. Finally, return sausage to skillet, mix with cabbage and add red pepper flakes if desired. Cook for 2-3 minutes until heated through.
