Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet. Add sliced Vidalia onions and sauté for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and caramelized.
  2. In a mixing bowl, blend 8 ounces of cream cheese and 1 cup of sour cream until smooth. Stir in half of the shredded cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter. Layer half of the caramelized onions on the bottom, followed by half of the cheese mixture.
  4. Top with the remaining caramelized onions and cheese mixture. Add the rest of the shredded cheese on top.
  5. Sprinkle 1 cup of breadcrumbs over the top and drizzle with remaining melted butter. This adds a crunchy topping.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
  7. Let cool for 5 minutes, then garnish with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese and serve.
