Ingredients
  

Crust
  • 1 cup butter softened for mixing
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour or gluten-free blend
Filling
  • 14 oz soft caramels for gooey middle layer
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts/almonds
Topping
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, blend together softened butter, granulated sugar, and all-purpose flour until crumbly. Press evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden. Watch for edges to brown.
  4. While the crust bakes, unwrap and melt caramels in a saucepan over low heat, stirring continually. Mix in chopped pecans.
  5. Pour the caramel-pecan mixture over the baked crust.
  6. Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Spread over the caramel layer.
  7. Allow to cool at room temperature for 1-2 hours until set.
